About the Class

Have you ever been inspired by the elegance, serenity, or grandeur of Chinese ink paintings? With just a brush, ink, and rice paper, you can experience the beauty of this thousand-year-old tradition.

This course introduces basic concepts of Chinese painting, brush and ink techniques, the "five shades of ink," and the shared origins of painting and calligraphy. Students will learn correct brush handling and one-stroke multi-color techniques. Each piece will complete three steps: painting, inscription, and seal stamping.Designed for both young beginners and adults, the course starts with simple subjects like flowers, fruits, vegetables, insects, aquatic life, and gradually progresses to figures and landscapes.Blending elements of Western watercolor and sketching, the course encourages creativity with projects like DIY ink bookmarks, enriching both technique and artistic expression.

Ms. Su has long been engaged in the teaching of traditional Chinese ink painting and has served multiple times as a judge for the Huaxia Cup Painting Competition. She has a solid professional background and extensive teaching experience. In her classes, she emphasizes fundamental skills, explains concepts clearly, and demonstrates techniques in a detailed and accessible way, making it easy for even beginners with no prior experience to follow along. She helps students gradually understand brushwork, ink application, and composition in Chinese painting.

In Ms. Su’s classes, students not only learn techniques but also gradually build confidence and interest in Chinese ink painting through practice. Many students have shared that they can see noticeable changes and improvement in their artwork within a relatively short period of time, making the learning results very tangible. The course progresses at a calm, steady pace, making it ideal for adults to find tranquility, relieve stress, and reset mentally through painting amid busy daily lives.

Ms. Su teaches with great patience and care, creating a quiet and focused classroom atmosphere. Her classes are especially suitable for adult learners who wish to start Chinese ink painting from scratch or pursue it as a long-term interest and a way to cultivate inner calm and mindfulness.
